How To Get Over Being Camera Shy

Aug 12, 2021

Are you camera shy? Most people are, so you’re in good company!

We live in a world where we are constantly bombarded with photos of models who look absolutely perfect.  I personally think that’s part of the reason why so many of us feel insecure about how we look.

Plus it is true that sometimes we look worse in photos than we do in real life.

This is because when you’re actually in motion in real time with someone we’re getting the full picture and we don’t notice imperfections.

But when something is captured on camera if the angle is wrong or the resolution is super sharp, we see this snap shot that shows in great detail things that we don’t necessarily see when just sitting down and having a conversation with someone.

It’s like a weird trick of the eye.

That is why hiring a seasoned professional can really help you feel more secure and comfortable on camera.

I help my clients feel less camera shy in 3 ways:

  1. Knowing the correct lighting, posing and camera angles for each type of body, age and skin tone will make it or break it when it comes to how flattering the image looks.  This is why selfies can sometimes disappoint!
  2. I have Photoshop. Now, I don’t really advocate for body shaping on models because it gives an unhealthy sense of what is beautiful (or even realistic) for young girls.  But it is helpful to be able to remove blemishes, stray hairs, whiten teeth, etc.  And sometimes I do a little bit of shaping on say an arm that got smushed, not so that you look unrealistic, but so that you look your best.
  3. All of my clients say I made them feel at ease.  I don’t know why!  Maybe it’s my years working as a massage therapist!  But generally speaking I am known for being “chill”.  I also know how nervous you must be and I carry my compassion into the way I conduct the entire photoshoot. You might even have fun!

So my advice to you is to relax, and let me guide you through the process.  You’re not supposed to know what to do or feel totally confident in front of the camera.  I’m here to hold your hand and make sure that you look and feel fabulous!
