Recently my good friend Kate Hollis read some Mary Oliver passages to me over Voxer (can you say “story time”!?) because that’s what nerdy creative friends do. And this quote hit me like a ton of bricks!
“The most regretful people on earth are those who felt the call to creative work, who felt their own creative power restive and uprising, and gave to it neither power nor time.”MARY OLIVER
Really, what helped me get through one of my biggest and most painful creative blocks EVER was this same realization: Life is short. I’ll regret not even trying.
A creative block at the end of the day is nothing but fear. And the antidote is action. Just start.
It won’t be perfect. You’ll make mistakes. It will take time. I recommend always coming back to that question to help motivate you. “Would I regret not doing this at the end of my life?”
